VET In Schools
Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools

Great Southern TAFE delivers VET in Schools training throughout the region to government and non-government schools to provide an avenue for school students to make a successful transition to the world of work.
Training occurs in the areas that will help students become more job ready through development of essential employability skills. The training is also aligned with existing and emerging industries in the Great Southern. Some of the courses are:
-
First aid and occupational health and safety
-
Communication and work ready skills
-
Trades areas such as automotive and metals
-
Business and information technology
-
Conservation and land management, aquaculture and rural operations
What is VET in Schools?
VET in Schools allows secondary school students to complete part or all of a nationally recognised vocational qualification while still studying towards their secondary graduation.
Students can study vocational education and training (VET) as well as regular school subjects – either at a TAFEWA college or at their own school.
They can also get a head start on an apprenticeship or traineeship by becoming involved in School Apprenticeship Link, or a School Based Traineeship.
More information can be found at www.vetinfonet.det.wa.edu.au
There are a number of different kinds of VET that you can get involved in while still at school.

VET as part of the WACE
Secondary school students can simultaneously study towards completion of Curriculum Council Courses of Study as well as VET Units of Competence. This can be structured in a variety of ways, including VET incorporated into a Course of Study, and VET undertaken instead of a Course of Study.

School Apprenticeship Link
School Apprenticeship Link (SAL) provides students enrolled in the WACE at a secondary school to get a taste of what work is all about.
School Based Traineeships
Enrolling in a School Based Traineeship allows students enrolled in the WACE at a secondary school to begin a training program where they learn and get paid at the same time, while remaining at school.
